7.SHOULDER(2Functions) *(i)Seat of Responsibility. A great and exemplary leader must have a shoulder.He must share the gain and take the blame.He takes responsibility for everything that happens in the course of carrying out his leadership duty.A leader who wants to be great and live an exemplary life,will not follow the myth that somehow,somewhere,someone is responsible for filling his life with continual happiness,exciting career options,nuturing family time,and blissful personal relationship.Most of us have been conditioned to blame something outside of ourselves for the parts of our lives we dont like.We blame our workers,colleague,client,weather,economy,upbringing-anyone or anything we can pin the blame on.We never want to look at where the real problem is -i.e ourselves. If you as a leader,haven't made a mistake before,you are always right,its either your deputy or servant,then you have failed as a leader.Or you are the type when its obvious you are at fault you start giving excuses,then you cant be great. George Washington wrote:99% of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses.If something doesnt turn out as planned,A great leader will ask himself "How did i create that?What was i thinking?What were my belief?What did i say or not say?What did i do or not do to create that result?How did i get the other person to act that way?what did i do that brought low productivity?" Stephen R.Covey corroborated this in his book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People"He defined Responsibility as "response-ability"---The ability to choose your response.So as a leader,you wont blame circumstances,conditions for any unfavorable incidents.Have a nice Day.
